My eSIM isn't connecting — what now?
Most "no signal" cases come down to one of four causes, in this order of frequency.
1. The eSIM isn't selected as your data plan
After install, the eSIM shows up in your phone's list of SIMs but isn't automatically used for data. You have to switch the data plan over to it.
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data → pick the esimple plan.
- Android (Pixel): Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → tap the esimple SIM → Mobile data toggle on.
- Android (Samsung): Settings → Connections → SIM card manager → Mobile data dropdown → pick the esimple SIM.
You'll see a brief "Connecting…" then bars/4G/5G if it works.
2. You're not at a location where the SIM's network operates
esimple plans are sold for specific countries or regions. If you're in, say, Mexico with an eSIM bought for Spain, the SIM won't register.
Confirm the SIM's coverage area matches where you are:
- esimple.ai/account → tap the order → the line shows the country.
3. Airplane mode / data roaming is off
Some phones disable mobile data roaming by default for new SIMs, even on a travel eSIM that's specifically meant to roam.
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → tap the esimple plan → Data Roaming should be on. (Yes, even though the SIM is local-by-design. The setting controls whether the SIM is allowed to use a network at all when the country code differs from the SIM's home country.)
- Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → tap the esimple SIM → Roaming should be on.
Also: make sure Airplane Mode is off (a common slip after a flight).
4. The local network needs a re-registration nudge
Sometimes after switching SIMs or arriving at a new destination, the phone needs to be prodded into re-registering on the new network.
In order of effort:
- Toggle Airplane Mode on for 10 seconds, then off.
- Restart the phone.
- Settings → Cellular → tap the esimple plan → Network Selection → turn Automatic off, wait, turn it back on (this forces a fresh search for available networks).
If none of the above work, contact support@esimple.ai. Include:
- Phone model.
- The country you're trying to use it in.
- The order reference.
- A screenshot of your phone's Cellular / SIM settings screen.
We can check on our side whether the eSIM is registered + healthy, and if there's a provisioning issue we'll refund or reissue.
